A small town on the slopes of the homonymous mountain, Cammarata stands out for the cultivation of wheat, olives, almonds, citrus and fruit. Cattle breeding and sheep farms are typical and the animals are exhibited each year at the Zootechnical Show in May, and at the Cattle Fair in August.

The name Cammarata derives from the Byzantine Greek term Kàmara, that means "vaulted room". The suburb has Arab origins and was besieged in 1087 by the Norman prince Ruggero II of Altavilla.

In 1257, the town was granted to nobleman Federico Maletta. Afterwards, it became a possession and residence of several feudal noble families, such as Vinciguerra, Moncada, and ultimately Branciforte. In 1812, the town achieved independence.

Among the monuments, particularly relevant is the Chiesa Madre that beholds a beautiful statue of the Madonna della Catena, a work of art by Pietro D'Asaro, and the Chiesa dell'Annunziata erected during the XIV century.

Also interesting is the Chiesa di Santa Caterina, that preserves a remarkable gold Crucifix, the work of art of an anonymous Sicilian engraver of the XVI century.
