The "Girgentian" goat
The name comes from Girgenti, the ancient name of the Sicilian town of Agrigento.
Some historian think that the origin of the race probably goes back to the goats of Tibet; others think to the Mark-hor race.
Imported by the Arabs, The "Girgentian" goat has got medium size with long white thick, sometimes spotted hair. It has got a small beard on its chin and a thick forelock on its forehead.
The characteristic of this animal that gives it a particular beauty is due to its horns which both male than female have got. These horns are erected and joined at the base of its head: they are up to 70 centimeters long in the males.
Its milk is very esteemed thanks to the good equilibrium between fats and proteins. You should pay particular attention to their characteristic horns designed in a very regular spiral shape, avoiding any divarication.
