Tourism in Casteltermini
Casteltermini owes its name to G. Vincenzo Maria Termini and Ferreri who in 1629 received the licentia populandi and the title of Prince of Casteltermini by King Philip III.
Few kilometres from downtown there is the Hermitage of Santa Croce which keeps a wooden cross founded much before the foundation of Casteltermini.
The International Institute for Geophysics researches of Pisa has determined, after very attentive analyses and with an error of no more than seventy years, that the oak from which the cross was made, was cut in 12 AD.

Probably the cross was made in the I century AD, as experts think that the period between the cutting of the tree and the creation of the cross cannot be very long.
Therefore, the cross founded out in Casteltermini might be the oldest cross all over the world.
In 1667 the castelterminesi, during the feast for the Cross, decided to adorn it with branded sacred inscriptions.
The Latin words on the cross were written by Paolino Chiarelli, a Catholic priest.
