The ruins of the Roman settlement

Some excavations made many years ago, brought to light the ruins of an old rural settlement of Roman origin.

The excavations discovered a building with irregular layout, whose structure was incomplete.

Researches have assumed that the original structure was formed by nine rooms included in one single room, 25 metre long and 13 metre large.

The northern rooms have been badly damaged, but those in the southern side, maybe storerooms, are quite well preserved.

Amongst the furnishings excavated, there is the neck of a Spanish amphora Dressel venti type, and two double handles of another amphora.

Several fragments of Italic pottery have also been excavated, and amongst them there is a hemispherical edge of a cup, probably dated before 50 AD.

The most of the Italic findings dates back to the 1st century AD. There are many plates, conical and hemispherical cups, some of them very finely decorated.

From these findings, one could estimate that the building was built during the second half of the 1st century AD, probably between 60 and 90 AD.
