Tourism in Grotte
Grotte is an agricultural town on a fertile hill, and the first settlement dates back to the 16th century. In 1634 the town was bought by Desiderio di San Filippo, who became duke of Grotte in 1648.
Driving along the freeway Palermo - Agrigento you'll reach the fork to Grotte and soon after you'll see Firrio Wood.
Surrounded by cultivated lands and green pastures, the wood is one of the seven parks in Agrigento province. The local forest rangers have planted many conifers, preparing thus the soil for a kind of oak which will form the definitive park.
The Firrio wood has been created after a hard fight between man and nature. Actually it is the successful attempt to exploit lands unfit for cultivation: enjoy this paradise and in the park there are tables, benches, barbecues and other equipment.
Here you can enjoy the beautiful landscape, far from the pollution and also you can understand how rangers work, protect nature and educate people to the natural environment.
