Joppolo Giancaxio (Zip Code 92010) is 15 Km. distant from Agrigento, the province it belongs to, 87 Km. from Caltanissetta, 207 Km. from Catania, 126 Km. from Enna, 303 Km. from Messina, 132 Km. from Palermo, 151 Km. from Ragusa, 232 Km. from Siracusa, 188 Km. from Trapani.
The municipality counts 1.405 inhabitants, its surface measures 1.910 hectares, and its population density is of 74 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises on an internal hilly area, 300 meters above the sea-level.

Typical of any agricultural center, Joppolo Giancaxio boasts a conspicuous production of grapes, wheat, and "fava" beans, exhibited during the annual Agriculture Fair during the month of September.
Several archeological sites are present, such as Cozzo Busumè, home of pre-historical tombs.
It is interesting to point out that the town was named Joppolo in honor of a woman called Rosalia Joppolo. She was wife of nobleman Calogero Colonna, founder of the suburb in 1696.
The added appositive Giancaxio derives from Giovanni Cascio, who was the original owner of the land. The first inhabited center was a fraction of Aragona until 1890. In 1926, the town acquired its independence.
A monument beautiful to visit is the XVIII century Chiesa Madre, dedicated to S. Francesco di Paola. Characteristic is the Castello dei Colonna built during the XVIII century.
