Realmonte (Zip Code 92010) is 10 Km. distant from Agrigento, the province it belongs to, 82 Km. from Caltanissetta, 202 Km. from Catania, 121 Km. from Enna, 298 Km. from Messina, 149 Km. from Palermo, 146 Km. from Ragusa, 228 Km. from Siracusa, 163 Km. from Trapani.

The municipality counts 4.629 inhabitants, its surface measures 2.041 hectares, and its population density is of 227 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises on a coastal hilly area, 152 meters above the sea-level.

A charming agricultural center a few meters from the coast, Realmonte distinguishes itself for the rich production of grapes, cereals, almonds, and olive trees. Cattle breeding is flourishing.
A considerable amount of rock-salt and potassium salt is extracted from the subsoil. The typical handicraft work includes wooden and wrought iron objects.

The name Realmonte derives from the latin term Mons Regalis, meaning "Montagna del re" (the king's mountain).
The first suburb was founded during the XVII century by the lords Alimena, dukes of Castrofilippo, to whom it belonged to until 1812, when feudality was abolished.
Outstanding among the monuments are the Chiesa Madre dedicated to S. Domenico, erected in 1700.
The town's surroundings are characterized by the archeological area of Villa Romana Durrueli, where a Roman villa of the I century A.D. was discovered.
