The town of San Giovanni Gemini

Tourism in San Giovanni Gemini

The Feast of Jesus Nazarene's cart

Amongst the many feasts which cheer San Giovanni Gemini up, a small town situated on the North-east slope of Mount Cammarata and coloured by a green Pinewood, the most enthralling is doubtless the Feast of Jesus Nazarene's cart.

The celebration, which takes place on the second Sunday of June, starts with the procession of the cart, a 20 metre tall tower placed on a boat carried by four oxen.

The imposing structure, in wood and adorned by angels, flowers, columns and ensigns of religious confraternities, ends with a huge cross.

The procession, taking place all around the town, is strictly supervised by the local artisans who compete for the best masterpiece.

The tower is also carried by long and strong ropes pulled by numerous believers.

On the cart, there are two bands playing sacred music, and from the very top petals are strewn on the crowd.

This feast is very similar to that dedicated to St. Rosalia in Palermo.
