Santa Elisabetta (Zip Code 92020) is 22 Km. distant from Agrigento, the province it belongs to, 76 Km. from Caltanissetta, 214 Km. from Catania, 117 Km. from Enna, 278 Km. from Messina, 135 Km. from Palermo, 164 Km. from Ragusa, 145 Km. from Siracusa, 189 Km. from Trapani.

The mother church

The municipality counts 3.227 inhabitants, its surface measures 1.617 hectares, and its population density is of 200 inhabitants per square kilometre.

It rises on an internal hilly area, 425 meters above the sea-level.

A charming agricultural center, Santa Elisabetta is outstanding for the conspicuous production of wheat, grapes, almonds, pistachios, and olives.

Cattle breeding is flourishing, and the cattle is exhibited each year at the Cattle Fair, held in the month of September.

The town was named Santa Elisabetta in honor of the homonymous patron saint. The first inhabited center rose in 1620 by will of lord Nicola Montaperto.

A particular of the city of Sant'Elisabetta

During the XVII century, it first belonged to the noble Bonanno family, and afterwards to the princes of Lanza.

The suburb was then ruled by Aragona's jurisdiction, and it achieved independence only in 1955.

Beautiful among the monuments are the XVII century Chiesa Madre, the Chiesa di S. Antonio, and the marvelous chromatic panels in located in piazza San Carlo.
