Chiesa Madre

It rose during the Middle Ages, by will of Federico III who had a castle built. In 1366, it was owned by the Chiaramonte family, and then by the Moncada family until 1516, when it passed to the Lucchesi family.

In 1623, Giuseppe Lucchesi, founded the suburb with "licentia populandi", and it then became a possession of the Gravina family.

Aside to the remains of the Middle Age Castle, there is the Chiesa Madre dedicated to S. Maria di Loreto, built in 1622, that beholds a painting of "S. Rosalia" by P. D'Asaro (1597-1647), who was called the "Monocolo" (monocle, one-eyed person), and was an excellent painter.
