The municipality counts 3.622 inhabitants, its surface measures 2.456 hectares, and its population density counts 147 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises over a hilly area, 423 meters above the sea-level.

The Town Hall is located in via delle Rimembranze, tel. ++39 0934-933021 fax. ++39 0934-936023.

It is prevalently an agricultural center, the main cultivations including wheat, almonds, olives, and grapes.

Originally, the town's name was Milocca, from the Arab term Maluk (cherry tree); in 1933, the town was named Milena, to honor the homonymous queen of Montenegro. The information regarding the town's history is certain only as of midway through the XIII century, when the feud belonged to the Capizzi family, who beheld the power until the first half of the XIV century.

Subsequently, it was bestowed to the S. Martino delle Scale Monastery of Palermo, that owned it until 1866.

Le Grotte Carsiche

Between the XVI and XVII centuries, the town lived an incredible economical renewal, that allowed the construction of the "Fattoria di S. Martino" (S. Martino's Farmhouse), residence of the ancient fortified farm. Originally a fraction of Sutera and Campofranco, it became an independent town in December 1923, thanks to a Royal Decree.

The "Fattoria di S. Martino", presumably of the XVII century, is extremely evocative. The Chiesa Madre, built between 1870 and 1881, is artistically remarkable. The archeological findings are numerous, and go back to the XII and X centuries B.C..
