The town of Mussomeli

Tourism in Mussomeli

The Castle of Chiaramonte

Mussomeli was founded in the second half of the 14th century by Manfredi III° Chiaramonte, who also built a superb castle on an isolated cliff, 2 km from town.

The castle is strategically positioned and dominates the surrounding grounds. The current appearance is dated back to the early 15th century.

Of great architectural interest are the walls showing the military style of that time, including the walls into the rocks.

The Castle of Mussomeli

Richly decorated is the facade, with a nice portal and windows with Gothic decorations.

Inside, there is a chapel, strongly mystic, the Hall of the Barons, with valuable Chiaramonte style portals, the Chamber of the Three Women, with delicate furniture reflecting, obviously, fa emale touch and taste.

Very interesting are also the Halls with Cross Vaults, the Hall of the Ogival Arches, and the underground corridors, where according to the legend, treasures were hidden and mysterious events happened.
