Santa Caterina Villarmosa (Zip Code 93018) is 91 Km. distant from Agrigento, 19 Km. from Caltanissetta, which is the province it belongs to, 135 Km. from Catania, 38 Km. from Enna, 223 Km. from Messina, 123 Km. from Palermo, 160 Km. from Ragusa, 210 Km. from Siracusa, 222 Km. from Trapani.

The municipality counts 6.272 inhabitants, its surface measures 7.510 hectares, and its population density counts 84 inhabitants per square kilometre.
It rises over an internal hilly area, 606 meters above the sea-level.

The town has a strong agricultural economy, and it distinguishes itself for the production of wheat, olives, and almonds.
Among the handicrafts, crochet work and embroideries are typical, and they are exhibited during the annual Fairs held during the months of May, August, and September.
The town was named Santa Caterina by Baron Giulio Grimaldi Risigallo, who founded it in 1572 and dedicated it to Santa Caterina d'Alessandria.

The appositive "Villarmosa", that means "pretty town", was added during the Spanish domination.
Afterwards, the suburb was bestowed to Baron Scipione of Altamira, who owned it until the abolition of feudal rights.
Some of the most charming monuments to visit are the XVII century Chiesa Madre, and the Chiesa di S. Maria delle Grazie erected in 1600.
The area called Contrada Scaleri is relevant because is it a natural reserve.
The Contrada Scaleri is a natural reservoir because of the presenze of "microforme carsiche", chalky rockies carve differently, object of the geological study.
