The town of Serradifalco

Tourism in Serradifalco

The Soprano Lake

Serradifalco was founded in a place rich of water by Leonardo Lo Faso who received the licentia populandi in 1640 and was entitled Duke of the town in 1665.

Far from downtown, the lake and its surroundings are included in the seven natural reserves of Caltanissetta province.

The lake, also called Cuba for its affinity to the Caribbean landscape, is a dolina, that is a cavity typical of the karst grounds produced by the action of water on limestone, filled with water from springs and rain.

The fauna of the reserve includes numerous birds, such as: black-necked grebe, a solitaire web footed water bird; the Tarabusino, a small water bird with thin legs; the Royal Godwit, a migratory bird with thin body, long legs, short tail, long and hook bill; the Pochard, with red brownish head and neck; the coot, with a strong black body, lobed feet.

Many are the amphibious and reptiles living in the lake area: the marsh tortoise is one of the most beautiful animal.
