Situated on the highest spot in the province of Catania, Maletto boasts a rich production of cereals, grapes, and excellent strawberries, that can be tasted during the annual Sagra della Fragola (strawberry festival) in the month of June.

Cattle breeding, horse and sheep farms are flourishing because of the vast pasture areas, and the deriving products are exhibited each year during the Cattle Fair in the month of September.

The town was given its name in 1263 by Count Manfredi Maletto from Mineo, the founder of the first inhabited center. Between the XV and XVI centuries, the suburb was bestowed to the noble Spatafora family, and in 1619 it became a princedom.
