Tourism in Maniace
The Castle, built near the XIII century shows now some marks which have changed its original aspect.
To enter in the Castle, it must need cross the drawbridge which overlooks a moat full of sea water.
After having crossed the bridge, it gets to the only room which was inside the building.
The structure shows a square plan, a keep at each corner, five columns with five spans on each side, an impluvium atrium and in the ceiling cross vaults supported by half-columns.
This hall was illuminated by 15 windows on walls, a large window which looked on the sea and the entrance open at the top.
Very suggestive are also four imposing fireplaces which are set in direction of north and south walls.
Worthy of particular attention is the main portal: with an ogival shape, it shows marble decorations which are very valuable and are finely in tune with the frame of the arch.
Very interesting from artistic point of view are the capitals of the spans still perfectly legible.
These were sculptured in the calcareous stone of Syracuse by handicraftsmen probably coming from Central Italy.

The church Santa Maria di Maniace
The church of Saint Maria di Maniace is illustrious a Romanesque monument of art of the twelfth century and seems to introduce to the beautiful gothic cistercense for the sobriety and the purity of its architectonic profiles.
The internal, to longitudinal plant, is unfolded on three nave and it is interrupted, nearly abruptly, in the flat wall of bottom to height of triumphal arc, of which they remain traces, beyond which they rose, originally, transept and the apses oriented to Levant, both destroyed from architectonic the 13 earthquake of January 1693.
However the remained space succeeds equally to animate and to fascinate with the escape of it arches pointed, line up from tans of yellow sandstone stone, supported from two rows of tawny columns made of lavic stone, alternatively round and hexagonal, than, with to it arches overhanging, are melted also in high capriate the lignee ones of the ceiling.
The filari of the windows to acute arc complete the architectonic lines of internal that are opened to splay in the deep thickness of the walls of navata central and those lateral ones redden on the white man intonaco of the walls of the tempio for the cooked one that it covers to them.
All it creates an encircling atmosphere of religious Hush and, al same time, of mysterious language that seems to come from far times.
The sacred building guards, to its inside, two examples of sculpture. To crushed relief stilizzate are the ornamental reasons of the altar frontal of altar composed from intentional of tralci vegetables, foliage, inflorescences, on the which small and deep holes practiced on purpose with the bottoming drill create a sage game of light and shade
An example of low relief is represented from the two figures marble of Angelo announcing and of the Vergine.
The external of the church has the superficial murarie formed from poor materials: ciotoli, knots irregular stones of various dimensions and colors, bricks and crushed stone, legacies with with lime and sand.
However the turns out solemn luminous warmth in the light of and and the main facade is inflamed the sunset.
