A charming agricultural center, Valguarnera Caropepe boasts a conspicuous cultivation of wheat, almonds, walnuts, olives, and grapes, that can be tasted during the annual so-called Fiera Grande (Great Fair), held in the month of March. Strongly developed are cattle breeding and sheep farms, exhibited each May during the annual  Cattle Fair.

The name Caropepe derives from the Sicilian dialect Carrapipi, that is the name of the homonymous hill where the town rose. The acceptation "Valguarnera" was added in 1398 by the feudatory Tommaso Valguarnera, the town's founder.

The Antiquarium

In 1626, the members of the noble Valguarnera family were appointed princes of the town, and they governed until the abolition of the feudal regime.

The most outstanding monuments are the Chiesa Madre (Mother Church) of the XVIII° century, that has three aisles, and the Palazzo del Municipio (Town Hall Building), situated in the premises of the ex  frumentarious mountain erected in the XVIII century.

One of Valguarnera's noteworthy citizens was Francesco Lanza (1897-1933), author of a fun book entitled Mimi siciliani (Sicilian mimes), where he describes in detail the traditions and costumes of Sicilian countrymen.
