Villarosa (Zip Code 94010) is 101 Km. distant from Agrigento, 29 Km. from Caltanissetta, 117 Km. from Catania, 20 Km. from Enna, which is the province it belongs to, 213 Km. from Messina, 141 Km. from Palermo, 165 Km. from Ragusa, 192 Km. from Siracusa, 240 Km. from Trapani.

A particular of Villarosa

The municipality counts 6.162 inhabitants, its surface measures 5.501 hectares, and its population density counts 112 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises over a hilly area, 523 meters above the sea-level.

A charming agricultural center, Villarosa is outstanding for the rich cultivation of wheat, olives, almonds, and grapes, that can be tasted during the annual Festa Agreste of the Madonna della Catena (Rustic Feast), in the month of September. Cattle breeding and sheep farms are flourishing, exhibited every year during the Cattle Fair in the months of August and September.

Originally, the town was called San Giacomo di Bombinetto. In 1761, it was changed into "Villarosa" in honor of the painter Rosa Ciotti from Caltanissetta, who created a singular town plan, favorably accepted by all of the town's inhabitants.

A particular of Sant'Anna

The current suburb rose with "licentia populandi" in 1762, by will of nobleman  Placido Notarbartolo. It had always been an active economical center, especially during the XIX century, when many sulfur mines present throughout the territory became operative. Afterwards, the town became autonomous.

One of the most important monuments is 1763's Chiesa Madre (Mother Church), dedicated to S. Giacomo Maggiore. Relevant as well are the Palace of S. Anna, the Palazzo Ducale (Ducal Palace), and the ex Convent of the Cappuccini, of the XVIII century.

A famous person from Villarosa was Carlo Maria Falzone (1877-1959), a notary public who was outstanding in several fields, such as music, in fact he created the so called "piano" accordion, stenography, as he invented a methodology of ideographic scripture, and mathematics, as he invented a peculiar manual calculator.
