Convento dei Cappuccini

Historic centre has two town nucleus, one of Arabic origin placed on the slopes of Mount S. Lena and the other placed easter than the former and dates back to '500.

In 1093 the little town was given by the Earl Ruggero to the Monastery of SS. Pietro and Paolo and it remained for many centuries.

Of particular artistic importance are the Cathedral Church, dedicated to S. Agata and it was built in the XVI century in the late Renaissance style, the Convento dei Cappuccini, the Chiesa della Madonna degli Angeli, the Palazzo della Famiglia Maggiore and the Palazzo Famiglia Fama.

Among its famous citizens we cite the writer Stefano D'Arrigo, lived in the last century, wrote the novel "Horcynus Orca", in which he tells the adventures of a Sicilian sailor in a very original and expressive language.
