The Medieval Town

The name of the little town derives from Arabic Aly, that means high and to it was added Marina in 1910 to distinguish from the other Alì.

The little town has had this appositive until 1954 when the name changed into Alì Terme, that refers to thermal establishments present all over the zone.

There are not many information about history of the town but we know that it has been a country house of commune of Savoca. Some documents has testified the notoriety of its thermal baths since the XVIII century.

The most important monuments are: the Cathedral church of S. Agata, erected in the XVI century, the Chapel of the institute of Maria Ausiliatrice where are preserved the mortal remains of the Blessed Maddatena Morano.

The monument of Beata Maddalena Moro

Proclaimed blessed the fifth of November 1994 in Catania by Holy Father Giovanni Paolo II, it is celebrated the fifteen of November.

Interesting to see is also the Saint Rocco Church that, built at the beginning of 1800, was destroyed by the earthquake of 1908 and then rebuilt and inaugurated in 1956.

The cult of Saint Rocco dates back to 1800, even if tradition remembers that in 1200-1300, during a wreck, a boat coming from the east with a rich load run aground the sea of Alì Terme.

Among the objects a statue was discovered representing Saint Rocco with a veil slid having belonged to Saint Agata.

Famous and interesting from a touristic point of view are in particular the Thermal baths of Granata Cassibile.
