About 70 kilometres from Messina, on the lands dominated by mounts Nebrodi and outlined by olive, vine and cereal growings, rises Basicò.

The village was founded in a very important archaeological area in the seat of the Mount Pito have been found finds dating back to Neolithic period, among them there are some objects of laciv stone and of ceramics; round the centre have been found numerous aggregations of graves.

The Mother Church of S. Francesco D'Assisi

Inside the village, into a regular and orderly town-planning, there are many artistic monuments which are considered appreciable documents of the ancient history of Basicò.

Splendid representations of sacred architecture are the XVIIth-century Cathedral Church with a refined style, dedicated to San Francesco d'Assisi (St. Francis of Assisi) and the Church of San Biagio, dating back to the XVI century and characterized by search of proportions in the taste typical of the period.

Foti Palace: The Courtyard

Important for its imposing size is the castle of the XVI century. On its front there are two portals adorn with decorations. Of 1700 are the Foti Palace and the Monastery of Basilian Fathers, which housed friars followers of the rule of Basilio Magnus (329-379).

Important from a historic-artistic point of view are two vaulted underground rooms which kept sacred material of 1200. Complete the magnificent places of Basicò the suggestive beaches of Marinello and Portorosa, sought-after destinations for bathing tourism.
