Brolo (Zip Code 98061) is 238 km. distant from Agrigento, 192 km. from Caltanissetta, 135 km. from Catania, 151 km. from Enna, 95 km. from Messina, which province it belongs to, 164 km. from Palermo, 239 km. from Ragusa, 193 km. from Siracusa, 263 km. from Trapani.
The municipality has 5.302 inhabitants and an area of 786 hectares for a density of population of 675 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises on a coastal flat area and is 8 metres above sea-level.

It is prevalently an agricultural and craftmade centre. Typical agricultural products are cereals, citrus fruit, olives and grapes. Wood and wrought iron handicrafts are very characteristical.
The small town derives its name from Latin Brolum that means cultivating field.
The small town has belonged to the feudal family of Lancia until the XVIII century and has been a part of Barony of Ficarra.

Until the end of '600 it has been involved in a great trade development, and it has been very important in exchanging among different hilly centres of Nebrodi which took place through its port.
Because of some floods of 1593 and 1862 which damaged the small town, the port was filled up by earth of near torrents. In the XVIII century it became a possession of the Marquise Del Longarino.
Among its most interesting monuments are the Medieval Castle erected in 1200 which was later restored and it also preserves a tower of '400; the wall town of '500 which is made to protect the stronghold, the Cathedral Church of St. Maria SS. Annunziata built in 1764 and the Palazzo Baratta (Baratta Palace).
Besides the "Università della risata" (University of the laughter) is very intereting and it has been created by humorists Nico Marino and Carlo Musarra. It every year in July organized two nights to give the opportunity to the youth to be included in the world of show.
