Heralds on the portal of the Medieval Castle

Until the end of '600 it has been involved in a great trade development, and it has been very important in exchanging among different hilly centres of Nebrodi which took place through its port.

Because of some floods of 1593 and 1862 which damaged the small town, the port was filled up by earth of near torrents. In the XVIII century it became a possession of the Marquise Del Longarino.

Among its most interesting monuments are the Medieval Castle erected in 1200 which was later restored and it also preserves a tower of '400; the wall town of '500 which is made to protect the stronghold, the Cathedral Church of St. Maria SS. Annunziata built in 1764 and the Palazzo Baratta (Baratta Palace).
