Tourism in Capizzi
The village of Capizzi, placed on the slopes of mounts Nebrodi, houses in the piazza Umberto I the very beautiful Church of San Giacomo.
Round it is set a new quarter which rose to recall the architectonic structure of old buildings structures made of the same stone previously used re-proposing the same plastic taste.
What is changed is the historic and social function also determined by changing of time the old quarter was dominated by the Church of San Nicolò and by the castle and by houses which were arranged round a branch of road.
Streets came into square before the church where citizens met and decided the of the village.
The temple contains a splendid marble statue representing Madonna del Soccorso (Our Lady of Relief), of 1517 made by sculptor Antonello Gagini of Palermo (1480-1571).
The sacred image, worshipped by people of Capizzi, is a real artistic masterpiece. Its soft shapes are made so as to give it the perfect proportion, the soft features grant simplicity to the whole sculpture.
A valuable artistic value is given to the Morte di San Giuseppe (Death of St. Joseph) made by the Messinese Giovanni battista Quagliata (1603-1673).
The canvas with bright colours and at the same time without excesses, shows St. Joseph in passing away his face shows a bright serenity while angels were flying about in air esalting the scene illuminateb with a light which recalls celestial armonies.
