Castell'Umberto (Zip Code 98070) is 239 Km. distant from Agrigento, 203 Km. from Caltanissetta, 108 Km. from Catania, 162 Km. from Enna, 122 Km. from Messina, that is the province it belongs to, 175 Km. from Palermo, 212 Km. from Ragusa, 166 Km. from Siracusa, 274 Km. from Trapani.

The municipality has 3.715 inhabitants, its surface measures 1.142 hectares and its population density counts 325 inhabitants for square kilometre.
It rises on the coast, on a hill 660 metres above the sea-level.

It is prevalently an agricultural and craft town. It produces olives, hazelnuts, cereals, citrus fruits and grapes.
Beautiful are the handmade sculptures in marble and stone.
The name of the town comes from Umberto I of Savoy, king of Italy, to whom the rebuilding in 1865 was dedicated.

The pre-existing town, called Castanea, had been completely destroyed by a landslide; the new centre was created to receive the old town survivors.
The Mother Church with two Antonio Gagini's statues (1526-1532) inside, the Norman castle and the 16th century Church of S. Francesco are its masterpieces.
