The Basilian Abbey, recently restored, was mede built by Roger II of Altavilla in the XI century.
Much probably it was founded on the ruins of a pre-existent church of the V century.
Very interesting is to stop and look the abbatial complex from the outside it is possible to admire in fact three apses in Arab-Norman style outlined by pilasters made of bricks and an octagonal dome which raises in the middle of the transept, in direction of the Cross.
The church, with a "T" plan keeps traces of Byzantine figures which fresco the walls.
The bell-tower has got in the second half of 1700 a little dome instead of the original cusp.
