The small town derived its name from its founder, Biagio Furnari, in the second half of the XIV century. Later Furnari's inhabitants were named dukes of the feud by Philip IV.

In 1750 the ducky became possession of Pietro Arduino and Rocca and later it has passed to Giuseppe Paternò Tedeschi.

The most interesting monument is the so-called Badiazza of Basicò, the usual name of the Abbey founded in 1310 by Frederick II.

The coat of arms of Furnari

It is interesting to know that the coat of arms of the town is a greyhound with the inscription "Till he comes!".

It is said in fact that during the Norman period the Count Roger gave his dog into the care of a farmer called Furnari and he promised to come back and repay him for the job. But he slowed to come back and the inhabitants of the place began to make fun of him, but the farmer replayed: "Till he comes!".

When finally the count came back repayed the farmer to trust him and made him the lord of the territory.
