Mongiuffi Melia (Zip Code 98030) is 252 km. distant from Agrigento, 186 km. from Caltanissetta, 60 km. from Catania, 157 km. from Enna, 55 km. from Messina, which province it belongs to, 297 km. from Palermo, 164 km. from Ragusa, 118 km. from Siracusa, 393 km. from Trapani.
The municipality has 892 inhabitants and an area of 2.429 hectares for a population density of 37 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises on an inland mountainous area and is 375 metres above sea-level.

Main economic activity is agriculture. Products mostly cultivated are citrus fruit, olives, fruit, corn, mulberries, grapes.
According to some philologists the name of the village derives from Arabic Manzil Jussuf, and means "Giuseppe's farm". The addition Melìa comes from Greek and means ash tree. Villages of Mongiuffi and Melìa have been under the jurisdiction of Taormina till up 1643 when they were given to Giuseppe Barile. Later they have belonged to other feudal families such as Corvajas and Raos.
The most interesting monuments are the church of St. Leonardo which keeps in itside a valuable marble altar of the XVI century and the ruins of two Greek-Roman aqueducts.
It is interesting to know that the valley of Mongiuffi Melì has been defined the most beautiful in the world by the French writer Roger Peyrefitte in his book "Dal Vesuvio all'Etna".
