Oliveri (Zip Code 98060) is 270 km. distant from Agrigento, 215 km. from Caltanissetta, 124 km. from Catania, 174 km. from Enna, 63 km. from Messina, which province it belongs to, 192 km. from Palermo, 228 km. from Ragusa, 182 km. from Siracusa, 291 km. from Trapani.

The municipality has 2.144 inhabitants and an area of 1.029 hectares for a population density of 208 inhabitants per square kilometre.

It rises on a flat area and is 2 metres above sea-level.

The Town Hall is placed in piazza Municipio, tel. ++39 0941-313201 fax. +39 0941-313072.

Main economic activities are agriculture and fishing. Products mostly cultivated are citrus fruit, grapes, vegetables, olives.

Oliveri derives its name from a Carolingian paladin, Oliviero.

The village has very old origins; during the Middle Ages it has belonged to different feudal families: Ferrario Abellis, Vinciguerra Alagona in 1360, Raimondo de Azuar, Spatafora in 1408, Gioieni, Francesco Ardoino in 1608, prince of Carini in 1650 and finally Paratore in the XVIII century.

The most interesting monument is the Medieval Castle built in the XII century and later restored.

One of the famous people of the place is Giuseppe Ziino (1841-1915) who was Chancellor at the University of Messina.
