Pagliara (Zip Code 98020) is 263 km. distant from Agrigento, 197 km. from Caltanissetta, 71 km. from Catania, 168 km. from Enna, 33 km. from Messina, which province it belongs to, 292 km. from Palermo, 175 km. from Ragusa, 129 km. from Siracusa, 391 km. from Trapani.

The municipality has 1.379 inhabitants and an area of 1.457 hectares for a population density of 95 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises along the coast on a hilly area and is 200 metres above sea-level.

Pagliara is prevalently an agricultural centre. Products mostly cultivated are citrus fruit, vegetables, oil, fruit. Local wine is very good.

The original name of the small town was either Tegurium or Palearia. The latter probably derives from Sicilian Pagghiara, that is "cottages with thatched roof". There are not many historical information about Pagliara even if we know that the feud was founded in Medieval period and soon after it was annexed to territory of Savoca under dominion of Archimandrita of Messina.
Later and till up 1914 it has been village of Roccalumera and after this date it became a municipality.

The most interesting monument is the Cathedral Church dedicated to SS. Pietro and Paolo restored in the XVII century and keeps its inside an altar-piece on a canvas that represents "Madonna col Bambino e i due santi" ascribed to Cesare from Naples (1586).
