The Cathedral Church

The Cathedral Church, dedicated to St. Salvador, was built in Norman period and has been enlarged in 1500 and entirely changed at the end of 1700.

Inside recent works of repair have brought to the light the XVIth-century structure of the church made up of three naves divided by columns made of sandstone which support ogival arches.

The marvellous capitals are sculptured according to canons typically medieval, with vegetable and anthropoid motifs.

The capital of the first column on the right is sculptured inway to represent a very original mermaid with two tails.

Important is Our Lady of the Snow made by Antonello Gagini (1478-1536) which is set at the right aisle.

At the high-altar there is a very valuable wooden statue of Salvatore Mundi of 1603, represented while he was undergoing a Transfiguration.
