The Castle

Going along the coast street which gets from Messina to Catania it is possible to admire, at a certain moment, the Castle of Scaletta Zanclea, an imposing building made up of three floors which raises on the top of a hill.

It is reachable through some little streets furnished with large steps which go up to the inhabited centre.

The building of the Castle probably dates back to Swabian period.

In the early XIII century Matteo Selvaggio has become its keeper, and later he also became its Lord by grant of Frederick II (1194-1250).
