Torregrotta is a prevalently agricultural village that bases its economy on the production of citrus fruit, garden products and fruit, early peaches and excellent potatoes which can be tasted, cooked according to typical local recipes, in the annual festival of potatos, kept in April and May.

The first populated village was under the jurisdiction of territory of Roccavaldina and it became self-governing in 1923 after the fusion of two different villages called Torre and Grotta.

The rests of the original centre and the rests of the ancient tower of the Castrum and the ancient habitation dating back to the '300 are visible still today.

The ancient tower of the Castrum

The new municipality include the two words: Tower, to memory of the town district where it existed the ancient tower of the Castrum and Grotta to memory of the town district adjacent.

On June, 22 of each year it is celebrated San Paolino that is the saint patron of the village.

His mortal remains, buried at first in Rome, were returned to Nola (native place of the saint) in 1909 by Pope Pio X.

The tradition tells that when the mortal remains were returned, the bells of the church of Nola were ringing by themselves. From this derived the saying: "U miràculo di San Paolino! La chiesa è chiusa e la campana sona!" (San Paolino's miracle! The church is closed and the bells are ringing!) to justify an unexpected event.

In the sacristy of the Church of the Saint Paolino Bishop is conserved a burlap of the ' 600, representing the deposition of Jesus Christ from the Cross.
