The Church of San Nicolò

In the alluvium of 1682 it was destroyed and then reconstructed nearly in the same place. The building was finished to the end of the 1800's.

Inside we can see a nave with a beautiful wooden ceiling and paintings of Tommasi (local painter of century XVII).

In the high altar there are conserved the relics of Saint Nicola of Mira. In the left wall there is a painting of the 1600's representing Saint Domenica.

The Church of San Francesco

The Church of San Francesco

Among the other architectonic testimonies presents in the medieval planning system of the town there is the Church of Saint Francescorising in front of the Mother Church.

The original church should have to go back to the XII░ - XIV░ centuries. when in the island were founded the first convents dedicate to Saint Francesco of Assisi.

In XVII-th century the church and the convent were built in the high part of the town. Of the annexed convent still remain some column, a huge scale, the bell tower and the clock of the 1700 still perfectly working. The Church of Saint Francesco introduces in the facade a monumental portal recovered from the ancient church of the 1400.

Within the Church are conserved the statues of Saint Francesco and Frà Leo of Antonio and Giacomo Gagini, a wooden crucifix of Frà Umile of Petralia, a statue of Saint Vito and one of Saint Paul attributed to the local school of Sebastiano Lione.
