The municipality has 1.262 inhabitants and an area of 275 hectares for a population density of 459 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises on a hilly area along the coast and is 215 metres above sea-level.

Originary Valdina was known by the name of Maurojanni.
It was a feudal village founded by Giovanni Rocca and derives its current name from Pietro Valdina who was prince of it in 1643 while his family got possession of the village.
Before being acquired by Valdina family it was possession of lords Perrone, Gioieni, Castagna and Taranto.
The main architectonic monument is the Cathedral Church with XVIIIth-century angle-iron on the front and a holy-water vessel situated in the left aisle.
