During the Mussulman domination till the XV century, some historical sources report the presence of a country house in Lalia's territory.
In 1557 the feud of Alia was acquired by the Spanish Luca Cifuentes, who gave it as a dowry to his daughter Francesca, bride of the marquise of Santa Croce (St. Cross), Pietro Celestri.
He in 1615 gained, by the king Filippo III, the permission to populate the feud. The permission became executive in 1623.
The Santa Croce family died in the early years of XIX century so the feud became a property of princes Sant'Elia which remained their for all the century.
In the monumental field there are the Cathedral Church or Sanctuary of the Madonna of the Graces, the town's matron, that was founded in 1639; the Mausoleum of the Gagini's school; the Peace Monument and Guccione Residence in liberty style, belongs to the end of 1800.
A very evocative element that is in the place where the town rises is the back mountain that belongs to mountainous chain of Madonne. It is 966 metres high and is simply called by people A muntagna (the mountain).
