Tourism and tourist places in Belmonte Mezzagno: The Cathedral Church

Building of the CathIt is placed in the main square of the little town, in the depth of historic centre and it has a very imposing structure which expands for 200 square meters and raises by about 30 meters.

The outside is lacking of any decorative expedients and it is preceeded by large stairs.

It has got a front with three gates and only the central ones leads to inside while those on sides lead to other places.

The inside has an only nave, covered by barrel vault and with a semicircular apse. Still now it preserves mostly of its original furnitures.

Among these, two paintings made by Pietro Novell (1603-1647) merit a particular attention: Santa Rosalia and the Sacra Famiglia (the Holy Family).

Towards the high altar it is possible to admire a valuable Crucifix made from cypress' wood finely sculptured, a present given by prince of Belmonte to church.
