Castellana Sicula

Castellana Sicula (Zip Code 90020) is 112 km. far from Agrigento, 77 km. from Caltanissetta, 153 km. from Catania, 56 km. from Enna, 225 km. from Messina, 103 km. from Palermo,which province it belongs to, 201 km. from Ragusa, 211 km. from Siracusa, 202 km. from Trapani.

The municipality has 4.060 inhabitants and its area covers 7.254 hectares for a density of population of 56 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises on montainous area and is 765 metres above sea-level.

As regards the agricultural field the town produces cereals and grapes. cattle and sheep breedings are present too.

A small agricultural village, Castellana Sicula was founded in the seventeenth period by Lady Gemma from Castellana who gave it her name. Until 1947 the centre followed the destiny of the near Petralia, and then it became a self-governing commune.
Then it followed the flacking of landed property and home settling in the countries.

In the monumental field there is the valuable Cathedral Church that was built in 1799 and was dedicated to St. Francesco from Paola.
It rises on the place of the old Matrix and has completely restored in 1968.
