The name of the very small town is of uncertain origins. It is thought to the shape of the head of the spur where the castle rises that calls to the mind a human face.
During the years the inhabited centre had placed on a slope close to the castle and in the XVIII century it began its development thanks to the prince of Carini.

Beautiful and valuable in the monumental field are the remains of the old castle, probably of Muslim origin. From there it is possible to admire a wide view of the place.
Important are also the Cathedral Church and the Arabic Thermal Baths.
The latter is formed by a large rectangular room with ogival barnel vault and the water that perpetually gushes out of a spring is very good and its temperature is 38°.
