Tourism in Godrano
Wide locality at the foot of Rocca Busambra (placed in the Wood of the Ficuzza), Godrano with borderlands Marineo, Monreale, Corleone and Mezzojuso, established an important natural reserve which covers 7.397 hectares of which 5.333 are used as reserve and 2.064 as prereserve.
The reserve has been institued to protect and preserve this wide naturalistic area in province of Palermo.
Rocca Busambra is 1.613 m. high and dominates the below wood. Its geological composition is formed by varied strata of calcareous rocks and dolomites in succession, with vertical walls which are steep and bare of vegetation.
Vegetation present in wood area is varied and counts several species of so-called "Mediterranean maquis", such as oak, ilex, Turkey oak, chestnut-tree and southern ash-tree. Recently have been included also some examples of fir-tree of Madonie.
Great it is also the plenty of mediterranean flowering plants and some species are particularly interesting from a botanic point of view, such as violet of Tineo, centaury of Busambra, camomile of Cupane, rock cabbage, plantain of Gussone and numerous and splendid examples of orchids.
Rocca Bumastra houses a great number of predatories such as royal eagle, eagle of Bonelli, royal kite, dusky kite and peregrine hawk.
The most beautiful period of year to visit the reserve is in Spring, from March to April, when plants are flowering. From the rock it is possible to enjoy suggestive panoramas which rove over all the below valley.
