The main sorts of breeding are cattle and sheep. There are also embroidery works on silk and crochet works as well as hand loom works.

The name Isnello probably derives from a Sicilian word Isineddu, so from Latin Asinellus.

Thanks to several finds descovered into neighbouring grottoes it is possible to get some news about the town that can be dated back to pre-historic period.

The first inhabited nucleus, called Terravecchia, rose in the XIII century around a castle but now it is impossible to find some traces of it because nothing has remained.

History of Isnello was bound to feudal families' who followed one another in ruling the town. They were the Filangieri, the Ventimiglia and the Santacolomba.
