The very small town was born as a port and was used for tuna fishing.
In 1500 thanks to its large production of fish it was contended by the Earl of Capaci and the archbishop of Monreale. In 1859 it became a self-governing commune.
It is important to visit the Church of St. Maria delle Grazie of the XVIII century. In front of the town a small isle rises at few hundreds metres from it.
On the isle there are remains of a small square tower dated back to the XVI century. On the dry land there is its corresponding coeval circular tower.
