Misilmeri (Zip Code 90036) is 124 km. distant from Agrigento, 127 km. from Caltanissetta, 234 km. from Catania, 146 km. from Enna, 259 km. from Messina, 15 km. from Palermo, which province it belongs to, 268 km. from Ragusa, 292 km. from Siracusa, 134 km. from Trapani.

The municipality has 23.012 inhabitants and an area of 6.921 hectares for a density of population of 332 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises on an internal hilly area and is 129 metres abovesea-level.

The main agricultural products are prickly pears, lotus, olives, grapes and citrus fruit. Wood hancraft is very characteristic.

The name of Misilmeri derives from Arabic Manzil Al Amir and means Country house of the Emiro. Originally it was an agricultural centre and it rose around a pre-existent Arabic-Norman castle.
In the XIV century it became feud of Chiaramonte family and such it had remained until 1539 when it was given to Bosco family. The Duke Giuseppe del Bosco-Sandoval created in the XV century the first botanical gardens of all Sicily.

Important monuments are the Church of St, Antonio and the Fontana Nuova (New Fountain) built in 1772.
