Montemaggiore Belsito (Zip Code 90020) is 106 km. far from Agrigento, 81 km. from Caltanissetta, 193 km. from Catania, 50 km. from Enna, 231 km. from Messina, 70 km. from Palermo which province it belongs to, 221 km. from Ragusa, 297 km. from Siracusa, 168 km. from. Trapani.
The municipality has 4.074 inhabitants and its area is 3.183 hectares for a density of population of 128 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises on an internal mountainous area and is 517 metres above sea-level.

Montemaggiore has large pastures so that it is full of cattle and sheep breedings. Strong is its production of cereals and legumes. In the handicraft stands out embroidery.
Montemaggiore derives from Latin Mons mayor and it means great mount. The appellative Belsito was added later about in 1860 to differentiate it from Montemaggiore al Metàuro that is in province of Pesaro. The small village was shaped in the Norman period near a Cluniac monastery. From the XVI century thanks to marquise Migliaccio it was settled the present inhabited centre.
The monuments are the Chiesa del Crocifisso (Church of the Crucifix) dated back to the late part of 1600 and the majestic Palazzo del Principe di Baucina (Palace of the Prince of Baucina) realized in 1860 by tha famous architect Ignazio Greco. Of the early years of 1900 is the Palace in liberty style belonged to Saeli family.
The famous literary critic Francesco Biondolillo (1887-1974) is from Montemmaggiore Belsito and he is teacher of Italian Literature at Universities of Roma and Palermo.
