Partinico derives from Roman Parthenicum. The name is made up of Parthenos that refers to a temple erected in honour of the godness of hunting Diana and of Inico the original chief town of Sicanian reign. The old village, according to the Arabian geographer Idrisi, was destroyed in the XIII century after the fight between the Angevins and Aragoneses. Only in the XIV century the small town has been repopulated thanks to reclamation made by Cistercians of Santa Maria of Altofonte.

In Partinico it is good to visit the Church of St. Giuseppe with six seventeenth-century paintings, the neoclassic Chiosco della Musica (Kiosk of Music) and the baroque Fountain with eight mouths.

In the history Partinico is recorded for its active partecipation to the movements of "Fasci siciliani dei lavoratori" that began on 9 December 1893.
