The name of San Cipirello perhaps derives from the name of an important landowner of the small town, a Sancio Pirrello. Enormous archaeological finds testify the presence of an inhabited centre since Sicanian-Punic and Roman periods. All the same the present small town comes back to the XIX century.
In 1838 in fact a tragical landslide destroyed some parts of the near San Gieseppe Jato and the inhabitants of the place moved to below area giving it the name of San Cipirello. In 1864 it has become a self-governing commune.

In the monumental field there are the ruins of a castle maybe of Saracen origins and the Chiesa Anime Sante (Church Holy Souls). Important is the archaeological area of Mount Jato that during the centuries has been possession of the Carthaginians, Romans and Arabs. There are visible the Theatre, the Agorà and the Temple of Aphrodite.
