About in 1600 the village was founded and inhabited by the countess Adelasia of the County of Cefalù. Later it was given to the bishop Scilliensi. In 1961 the commune, that belonged to the jurisdiction of the near Collesano, has gained its complete authonomy.
Among its best monuments we find the Chiesa of S. Maria della Catena (Church of St. Maria of the Chain) that preserves a beautiful statue of Our Lady made by the School of Gagini, and the Chiesa of the Baglio (Church of the rural farm) and the Cirino Palace both of 1700.
It is important in the territory the presence of 14 water mills built round 1800 and some of them are still now working.
