The initial name of Ventimiglia was Calamima from Latin Calamus that means "cane".
In 1625 it was called Ventimiglia in honour of Beatrice
Ventimiglia wife of the earl Giovanni Carretto owner of the
feud. Only in 1863 it was added the appositive "di Sicilia" to
distinguish it from Ventimiglia in Liguria.
The Cathedral Church with medieval origins is very beautiful
to visit. All over the territory there are nature reserves
among which we cite Pizzo Cane's and Pizzo Trigna's and
the Mazzamuto Grotto.
