In Villabate citrus fruit and fruit are mainly cultivated. Important are also cattle and sheep breedings.
The name Villabate derives from Villa dell'Abate (Abbot's Villa) an agricultural centre founded by the Abbot Antonio Agnello from Palermo in the XVII century. The territory results to be peopled until prehistoric period.
Later it has been a Phoenician possession and since the XIV century it has become a feudal possession of Chiaramonte family. Then it was ruled by Termine Family who has held power until 1858 when it became independent.
Several archaeological areas are all over the territory. Among them we cite Cozzo Cannita area where found some coins dated back to the VII and II centuries B.C. and two sarcophagi of the V century B.C..
