Tourism in Chiaramonte Gulfi
Two kilometres far from the marvellous medieval village of Chiaramonte Gulfi there is the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie.
Plunged into the pinewood at the slopes of Mount Arcibessi, it represents an important attraction both for believers and those who just want to enjoy a beautiful sight.
From here it is possible to enjoy a gorgeous view of Mount Etna, and if you are lucky you can see the impressive play of lights and colours, a feeling that only the erupting Vulcan of Europe can offer.
The marble statue resembling Jesus' mother, placed inside the sanctuary, is well integrated in the landscape and its simple style radiates sanctity and humanity in the same time.
The construction of this temple is linked to an old legend when in 1576 the inhabitants prayed the Holy Virgin to prevent plague contamination: the village was saved and a spring appeared from the ground.
