Pachino (Zip Code 96018) is 188 Km. distant from Agrigento, 193 Km. from Caltanissetta, 105 Km. from Catania, 197 Km. from Enna, 201 Km. from Messina, 335 Km. from Palermo, 52 Km. from Ragusa, 47 Km. from Siracusa, that is the province it belongs to, 361 Km. from Trapani.
The municipality has 21.494 inhabitants, its surface measures 5.047 hectares and its population density counts 426 inhabitants for square kilometre.
It rises along the coast, on a flat area, 50 metres above the sea-level.

The main economical activities are farming, cattle breeding and fishing.
It produces grapes, greenhouse vegetables and citrus fruits. There are cow and sheep farms.
Its name comes from the Greek Pakùs, which means big.
We have very few historical evidences of Pachino: anyway we know that it was founded in 1778 by Gaetano Starrabba Alagona and that it was initially inhabited by the Maltese.
Amongst the monuments we mention the Mother Church, built in 1790.
Very interesting are also the caves of Corruggi, storing Neolithic findings as well as the Cave of Calafarina, with other interesting findings.
Amongst the illustrious people we mention the writer Vitaliano Brancati, living last century, who mocks the Sicilian machos in books such as Il bell'Antonio or Paolo il caldo.
